If I were not me, I would envy me! I have a great life that starts with the person of Jesus Christ. There is an old hymn entitled "Thou Fount of Every Blessing". He is the source of every thing good in my life. My goal in life can be summarized this way: "I want to find MY place in HIS story".
My understanding of the biblical narrative (His story) is continually being challenged and expanded despite my lifelong participation in the church and practice of the Christian faith. This pilgrimage has included periods of passionate devotion, apathy, spiritual experiences, applied study, distraction, and even "back-sliding". In 2020, with the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic shutting down my "normal", He lovingly invaded my field of vision such that I began to hunger and thirst for more of Him. My appetite for "lesser things" (entertainment, sports, news, political commentary, social media, relaxation, etc.) gave way to an amazing world of resources, ideas, relationships, music, books, sermons and Bible teaching that are reshaping who I am, what I feed on, and how I see the world I live in.
It has been an amazing 10 months now. Jan and I (as one of our kids observed) thrived during the lockdown and COVID. It has been the best year of my life and our marriage. Her companionship meant I was never alone and we have adventured together. Jan has sustained her focus on Jesus regardless of my condition and always done the spiritual heavy-lifting in our family. I am more taken by her today than at any previous point in our marriage of almost 40 years.
Scripture talks about "the riches of His glory" which can be mined and enjoyed daily. I have been exposed to so much glory, truth and beauty during this strange and sometimes isolated season. While I am perfectly content to enjoy it all privately and wrestle with its implications for me, I cannot do it. Some of it simply must be shared.
My hope for this website is to share some the "Best Things" I have discovered during my COVID journey and those I hope to discover in the days and years to come. I will post links and excerpts from time to time as I feel inclined. They may serve only as a record of some of what has impacted me most. Or, they may be of some similar use to you in your own journey. Take them or leave them, it is entirely up to you. I have no ego-driven need for validation through "likes", "shares", or words of approval. My validation does not come from man. I see this as simply a ministry of influence. The overflow of His goodness that spills out.
What you will discover is that these resources do not consist of new truths or progressive enlightenment. They will not lead you away from Jesus, they will lead you to Him. They will not undermine the historic view of scripture as inerrant. To the contrary, the beauty and glory is tied to a proper and fuller understanding of the "old, old story". There is no need for a substitute. "In Him dwells all the fullness of Deity". He lacks nothing and in Him alone we find redemptive power, transformation, and our place in His story.
The Best Things come from Him. "Every good thing and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation of shifting shadow". James 1:17 NASB
